Hides arrive folded, so creases and slightly lifted edges are normal on day one. Left alone, most rugs settle completely flat within a week or two as the hide relaxes into the floor.

If you would rather not wait, an iron does it in minutes.

Flattening a crease or a curled edge

  1. Lay the rug flat, hair side up.
  2. Place a slightly damp cloth over the crease as a protective layer. Never put the iron on the hide directly.
  3. Set the iron to a low heat or steam setting and press gently over the cloth, keeping it moving.
  4. Repeat on the back of the hide for the same area. Doing both sides is what makes it hold.

A garment steamer works just as well if you have one, though most people find an iron easier to reach for.
